FAQ
Why can’t I keep photos in my old album?
Many people have stored their photos in magnetic type albums. These albums
have plastic overlays that you peel back to place your photos on the sticky
page below. These pages are acidic which causes you photos to become yellow
or otherwise discolored. They also lead to deterioration of the photos over
the years. Current scrapbooking methods and albums are acid-free and
lignin-free and will preserve your photos for generations to come.

What is acid-free and lignin-free?
Acid is a chemical agent used during the manufacturing of paper that causes
paper and photos to deteriorate. Disintegration can be slowed dramatically
when acid is removed from paper during manufacturing. Lignin is an agent that
holds wood fibers together in a tree. Newspaper has a very high lignin content
and starts to become brittle and yellow after only a few days. Lignin can also
be removed during manufacturing of scrapbook materials to make them photo
safe. Products used by Heather are acid-free and lignin-free whenever possible.

Does this mean I can’t use newspaper articles in my custom
scrapbooks?
Absolutely not! Newspaper announcements and articles can be very important in
documenting your life. These items can be included by either making a copy
onto acid-free paper (recommended) or by spraying with an archival spray that will make the
clipping photo safe for scrapbooking.

What can I expect from start to finish when ordering a
custom scrapbook?
The process is really straight forward. We will first have an initial
consultation either in person or over the phone. At this point I will need all
your photos, any supplies or information that is important to the project,
half of the balance and a signed contract. I will begin work on your scrapbook and
you will have the option of seeing your custom scrapbook pages along the way. Once your
custom scrapbook
is completed the remaining balance will be due and I will ship your scrapbook to
you. I take pride in being a professional scrapbooker with a personal
touch.

What do I need to do before my initial
custom scrapbook consultation?
The best thing you can do to make the process smooth is to organize your
photos. It is best to place small groupings in envelopes with the important
details on the outside. Try and recall who is in the pictures, what was
happening and any other stories that make them special. During our
consultation we determine if the photos can be cropped, if any are
irreplaceable and should be copied, what size scrapbook you should consider, how
they should be adhered and other important details about your photos and
scrapbook pages. It sounds complicated, but the process is very simple once you’ve got
your photos organized!

Can I view my custom pages before the scrapbook is completed?
Absolutely! You will have the opportunity to view your
custom scrapbook pages via e-mail after
the first few are completed. At that point we can make sure that I am on the
right track to build a scrapbook you are excited about. It is important that
you communicate any changes you’d like right away.

What is journaling?
Journaling is simply the recording of the stories of your life! A picture may
tell a thousand words, but generations to come will want to know the who,
what, where and when of your photos. There will be room on your custom
scrapbook pages for you
to journal with an acid-free pen. Many people (including me!) don’t like their
handwriting, but I would strongly recommend that you handwrite on your
scrapbook pages.
It is an important part of the personalization of your scrapbook. Journaling can
be computer generated by Heather for an additional fee if you prefer.

How long will it take to complete my custom scrapbook?
This will depend on how many photographs and the level of detail you want in
your custom scrapbook. We will go over this at your initial consultation as it can vary
widely. I will always do my best to get your project to you in a very timely
manner.
